No. 16 DePaul Sweeps Softball Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville softball team lost to No. 16 DePaul 7-0 and 7-3 in a Conference USA doubleheader 7-3 Saturday at Ulmer Stadium.
In the opening game, the Blue Demons began the scoring early in the first inning when Sarah Martz doubled and scored on a single by Gina Ramacci, who crossed the plate on a hit by Christina Douglas to give DePaul a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, Molly Sircher, pinch running for Saskia Roberson who reached on a single, moved to second when Lindsay Chouinard hit into a fielder's choice and scored when Liz Bouck reached on an error. Chouinard moved took third on the play and scored on another Cardinal error. Martz's triple brought in Bouck to increase the DePaul lead to 5-0.
The Blue Demons added two more runs in the sixth when Bouck singled, stole second and scored on Ramacci's two-run homer for the 7-0 game.
DePaul starter, Chouinard, (14-3) got the complete game shutout, allowing only one hit and striking out seven.
Louisville starter Jessica Rak (18-10) took the loss, allowing five runs, two of them earned on seven hits and striking out three in five innings. Sara Bausher had the Cards' only hit of the game.
In the second game, DePaul jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Bouck reached on a two-base error and took third on Martz's sacrifice bunt. She scored on a sacrifice fly by Ramacci for the 1-0 lead.
In the second inning, Katie Kukman singled and moved to second when Roberson reached on an error. Bouck reached on a fielder's choice, and Kukman took third, then scored on another Louisville miscue. Roberson and Bouck crossed the plate on Martz's two-run single to put DePaul up 4-0.
Sarah Douglas added another run to the total with her solo home run in the third. Kukman drew a walk, took second on a wild pitch and scored on Jenny Doezie's hit. Bouck's single drove in Doezie to make the score 7-0.
The Cards finally scored in the bottom half of the third when Kenzie Meisenburg singled, moved to second on Keola Calderon's hit and crossed the plate on a single by Melissa Jacobo for a 7-1 game.
U of L added two more runs in the seventh when Aja Sherman led off with a double and moved to third on Meisenburg's infield single. A DePaul error brought Sherman and Meisenburg home for the 7-3 final.
DePaul starter April Valdez (5-2) got the win, giving up three runs, only one earned, on eight hits and striking out four in seven innings.
Rak (18-11) took the loss, allowing seven runs, three earned, on eight hits and striking out two. Meisenburg, Calderon and Sherman each had two hits.
Louisville (20-22, 6-6) will close out the series with DePaul (26-7, 11-1) Sunday at noon at Ulmer Stadium.
