New Orleans, La. - The University of Louisville women's golf team stands tied for seventh place after the first round of play in the 2002 Green Wave Women's Golf Classic Monday at Lakewood Country Club.
Playing in a blistering cold wind that gusted all day, host Tulane holds the top spot with a score of Tulane 308 while Campbell is second with a score of 318 and Mississippi State rounds out the top three with a 319. The Cardinals are tied with UAB and Ole Miss with a 330.
"We're a little disappointed in our play today," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "The weather conditions have played a big part in our outcome today. We didn't do a good job of adjusting to the conditions. Our short game is the problem and it seems to be the key to moving up tomorrow."
Sophomore Morgan Hapney leads the Cardinals with a score of 78 and is tied for sixth place. Fellow sophomore Alison Wright stands tied for eighth place with a 79 first round total. Senior Lizzy Freemantle is competing as an individual and is tie for 16th place with a score of 80.
The Cardinals will wrap up play with 18-holes tomorrow.
