LOUISVILLE, Ky. - LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma announced that Jonathan Howard has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his tennis career at U of L. The Waskom, Texas native was ranked No. 1 in Texas and has been ranked as high as the No. 3 Under 16 player in the country in the 2001-02 season.
"Jonathan Howard is a blockbuster signee for our program," said Ecarma. "He is the highest-ranked United States player to ever sign with U of L tennis. We have worked very hard for years to get this type of signing and it signals that we can compete with the best programs for the country's elite recruits. With nationally ranked sophomore Octavian Nicodim and arguably one of Conference USA's top freshmen, Jhonny Berrido, and Jonathan Howard next year, the Louisville men's tennis program will have a star for the years to come after the departure of Cody Conley and Paulo Carvalho."
The U of L men's tennis team will begin the spring season January 17 when the Cards play host to Wright State at 2 p.m. and UT-Chatannooga at 6 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
