TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Louisville women's soccer fell to 12th-ranked Florida State 3-2 on Sunday. Amber Tollefson scored the game winner in the 75th minute for the Seminoles.
"We came out and played 90 minutes of soccer today, and my hope is that we will see that kind of performance every game," said Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
"Today was a solid team effort against a top 15 team, and a big step forward. I was especially happy with Gina Lower, Jerika Amos, Heather Orahood and Leigh Carroll, and the way they played defensively."
Freshman Lisa Martin notched her first career goal in the ninth minute to give Louisville(2-6-0, 1-2-0) a 1-0 lead.
Florida State(6-3-0, 2-0-0) answered the goal five minutes later when freshmen Jez Ratliff scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year, making it 1-1.
Junior Cindy Schofield gave the Seminoles a 2-1 lead in the 34th-minute as she tied Ratliff for the team lead in goals with her fourth.
With just 29 seconds left on the clock, junior Melissa Wark collected the ball inside of FSU's 18-yard box and fired a shot at freshman keeper Ali Mims. Mims made the save but freshman Rachel Gold buried the rebound to even the game at 2-2 as the teams went into half.
Tollefson then scored the game winner for FSU at 74:33.
Louisville will visit Murray State Thursday at 5:00 before travelling to Birmingham to face UAB Sunday.
