State College, Pa. - The University of Louisville women's golf stands in second place after 36-holes in the Nittany Lion Invitational. Host Penn State holds a two-stroke lead with 609 on the day while the Cardinals shot a 611.
"The conditions were cold, hot, cold and windy, making for a long day," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "I was pleased with how the team came back in the second round."
Louisville was tied at fifth with host Penn State after the first round, shooting a 310. Despite the adverse conditions, the Cardinals shot the second best score in the second round with a 301, while the Nittany Lions shot a 299 for the lead.
Sophomore Ali Wright shot a 74 in both rounds and is tied for the lead with James Madison's Jessica Lewis. The two stand at just four over par.
"The course played really short today," said sophomore Ali Wright. "Unfortunately I was not able to take advantage of it because I was not hitting my driver very well. Which is unusual for me but I am happy with my score considering how the day went."
Sophomore Morgan Hapney is tied at 17th with a two-round total of 155. The Cards' Cindy Pasechnik and Jessica Kell are tied at 20th with a score of 156. Rounding out the top finishers for the Cardinals is Kansas Gooden who stands tied at 24th with a score of 157.
Freshman Meghan Little had to withdraw in the second round due to injury.
The Cards will tee off at 9 a.m. tomorrow for the final round of play. They are paired with Penn State and James Madison.
