Cross Country Teams Each Place Fourth at Commodore Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams each placed fourth at the 2001 Commodore Classic Saturday morning in Nashville. The event, hosted by Vanderbilt University, was held on the Vaughns Creek Course at Percy Warner Park.
On the men's side, the Cardinals finished with 113 points, just three points behind third-place Western Kentucky. Emory University won the 23-team race, while Murray State placed second.
Sophomore Curtis Persinger led the Cardinals with a time of 27:26.30 to finish 14th. Senior Justin Banks was just five seconds behind (27:31.98) and finished 16th, while juniors Chris Cox (27:44.82) and Mike Horan (27:48.32) placed 25th and 29th, respectively.
Belmont University's William Kemey won the 8,000m race with a time of 25:23.94, nearly one minute ahead of the second-place finisher.
In the women's race, the Cardinals totaled 130 points for their fourth-place finish. Western Kentucky and Belmont tied for first in the 25-team race, while Vanderbilt came in third.
Senior Alicia Cavender led the Cards with a 17th-place finish with a time of 19:21.00. Junior Marea Ingwersen (19:38.00) and sophomore Emily Daunhauer (19:39.00) finished 25th and 26th, respectively, to round out the Cards' top-30 runners.
Tennessee's Sharon Dickie was the top finisher in the 5,000m race with a time of 18:05.00.
The Cardinals return to action Saturday, October 6, when they host the Louisville Invitational. The meet will be held at the U of L Shelby Campus. More details of the event will be released in the next two weeks.
