LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's cross country team placed three runners in the top-12 to finish third overall at the Cardinal Classic Saturday morning at the U of L Shelby Campus.
Kentucky captured the five-team event with 26 points, followed by Morehead State (53) and U of L (58).
Hunter Spencer from UK won the 8000m race with a time of 24:41.40, narrowly edging Morehead State's Paul Gilvin by less than four seconds.
Senior Justin Banks led the Cardinals with a career-best time of 26:12.20 to finish ninth. Freshman Brian Hurst (26:23.20) and junior Mike Horan (26:26.70) finished 11th and 12th, respectively.
"I am pleased with the way we finished today," said U of L head coach Gene Weis. "We were running without our top runner (Curtis Persinger), so all of our guys had to step up and they did."
The Cardinals return to action Friday when they travel to Richmond, Ky., for the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.
