Alberta, Canada - University of Louisville junior-to-be Cindy Pasechnik shot a final round of one over-par 73 to win the Alberta Women's Amatuer by two shots.
Pasechnik who took a one-shot lead into the final 18 holes, was deadlocked after the fifth hole with two-time champion Jessica Lucuik when she bogeyed a par 5 and Lucuik birdied.
"Jessica made some bogeys at the seventh, eighth and ninth holes and I was a little more calm going into the back nine," said Pasechnik. "But she didn't back off. She kept hitting it tight but neither of us really got any putts to drop."
Pasechnik finished with a 54-hole total of 223, her high round of 77 coming during Wednesday's extremely windy second round. Lucuik checked in at 225 and Kim Carrington finished third at 232.
This was Pasechnik's third amatuer event and her best finish was three years ago when she finished second in her first Alberta Women's Amateur.
"From the first year I have wanted to win it,and it feels good," said Pasechnik. "I really didn't make many birdies but I got it up and down from within five feet all week. I just played the ball consistently, hit the ball at my targets, and stayed out of trouble."
Pasechnik will face many of the same golfers in two weeks at Bearspaw in the provincial team trials. The top four players will advance to the nationals at Winnipeg's Nialewa club.
