
Haley Will Play in Prestigious All-Star Game

Keene, NH. - Louisville Cardinal shortstop Adam Haley will play in New England Collegiate Baseball League(NECBL)/Cape Cod League All-Star Game on Saturday in Keene, New Hampshire. The game features players from the top two collegiate wood bat summer leagues, and Haley is one of 27 selected from the NECBL where he plays for the Torrington Twisters.
As of July 26th, Haley was hitting .270 with 12 RBI and eight stolen bases, while playing second and short for the National division-leading Twisters. Haley played in the intra-league all star game on July 22nd, recording two putouts.
The junior-to-be lead the Cardinal nine in hitting(.347), runs(45) and on-base percentage(.452), while setting a new school record for getting hit by a pitch, taking one for the team 14 times during the 2001 campaign. Louisville was 32-29 on the year, a 15 win improvement over the 2000 season, fifth in the nation.
Third baseman Mike Budak and pitcher Mike Eilers are also playing in the NECBL as teammates for the Danbury Westerners. Budak is hitting .240 with three home runs and 18 RBI, while Eilers is 0-5 with a 4.18 ERA.
Outfielder Mark Jurich and pitcher Carlos Fernandez are teammates on the Vienna Mustangs in the Clark Griffith Collegiate league. Jurich is sixth in the league with 15 RBI, and is hitting .252, starting all 30 games for the Mustangs, while Fernandez leads the league in wins(5-1) and is eighth with a 2.51ERA. Fernandez was a member of the Clark Griffith Baseball League all-star team, tossing an inning, while surrendering a hit and striking out one on July 2, when the team faced a squad from the Eddie Brooks League in the Joe Brazell All-Star Game.
Catcher Fernando Isa is playing in the Great Lakes League for the Northern Ohio Baseball Club.
There are eight wood bat leagues for collegians that have completed one year of eligibility and have one year remaining. The season typically begins the first week of June and wraps up in August.
