Men's Tennis Completes Competition at Tennessee Fall Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Junior Paulo Carvalho advanced to the semifinals in singles and teamed with freshman Octavian Nicodim for a semifinals appearance as University of Louisville men's tennis team finished competition this weekend at the University of Tennessee Fall Classic.
En route to his semifinal match, Carvalho defeated Toledo's Pete Baghdati 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-2 in the first round and UAB's Sanzaruz Zaman 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-2 in the second round. He defeated Roberto Fernandez 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before falling to Vanderbilt's Lewis Smith 6-3, 7-5 in the semis.
Nicodim received a bye in the first round and fell to Tennessee's Andy Crews 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round.
Freshman Sebastian Aspillaga defeated Ernesto Diaz 6-2, 6-4 to move to the second round where he fell to Garnot Fischer of Tennessee Tech 7-5, 6-2.
In doubles action, the team of Nicodim and Carvalho received a bye in the first round and defeated UAB's Ruben Zrihen and Sanzaruz Zaman 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Tennessee Tech's Razvan Ilie and Garnot Fischer defeated Nicodim and Carvalho 8-5 in the semis.
