Mason, Ohio -- The University of Louisville men's golf team carded a final round 300 to finish 14th overall at the Xavier Invitational in Mason, Ohio. The Cardinals' three-day total of 882 put them 27 strokes behind tournament champion Western Kentucky.

Senior Grant Sturgeon recorded the Cards' only top 20 finish, shooting a 54-hole score of 216 (+3). Sturgeon shot a final round 73 (+2) to finish tied for 11th place with five other golfers.

Freshman Brett Jones and sophomore Matt Bascom backed sturgeon and finished tied for 53rd place. The duo fired 10-over par scores of 223 at the two-day event.

The Cardinals will conclude the fall portion of their 2001-2002 schedule on Oct. 22-23 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions.
