LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville tennis player Tvrtko Kujundzic is No. 51 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association pre-season singles rankings, and the doubles team of Kujundzic and Joachim Lien is No. 42.
Kujundzic, a senior from Zagreb, Croatia, was U of L's No. 1 player last season. He compiled a 25-20 overall record for the Conference USA champion Cardinals and earned a spot on the All-Conference team. He helped lead the Cards to their second NCAA tournament appearance in three years. Kujundzic was ranked as high as No. 88 last year and finished the season at No. 95.
"I think all the hard work that Tvrtko has put in is paying off," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He is among the top 2% of all Division I tennis players and that is a great compliment."
Lien, a sophomore from Oslo Norway, played the No. 2 spot for the Cardinals, compiling a 22-9 record since joining the team in last spring. He earned a spot on the All-Conference team as well as C-USA Freshman of the Year honors. The doubles team of Kujundzic/Lien compiled a 19-9 record last season and was ranked as high as No. 51 in doubles.
"It's always nice to have a doubles team in the national rankings," said Ecarma. "Joachim will follow up his C-USA Freshman of the Year standing with a bigger breakthrough as a sophomore."
The Cardinals finished last season with a team ranking of No. 39, the highest in program history.
