LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sonja Percan's 18 kills helped Louisville to a three-game sweep of Loyola of Chicago and enhanced the Cardinals' chances of getting an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cardinals, 19-11, defeated the MCC Conference Champions 15-11, 15-9, 15-8. The Ramblers, who have an automatic bid already, now post a 24-9 record.
"It certainly helps our chances in getting a bid, having already beaten a team which has earned its way in," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach. "We were very focused and had great purpose tonight."
Louisville popped out to a slow start, trailing 7-1 in the first game but came back to win. The Cardinals had little trouble after that.
"They were a good team, they beat UW-Milwaukee twice this year, a team that upset Wisconsin," said Kelly McClain, who had 14 kills for U of L. "But we were on a mission tonight and accomplished our goal. Now it is in the hands of the committee."
The committee makes its announcements Sunday night at 10 p.m. in a satellite press conference.
