LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville gained a share of the Conference USA lead last night with a three-game sweep of Cincinnati at The Gardens.
Kelly McClain had 18 kills and 14 digs to lead the Cardinals to a 15-11, 15-7, 15-13 win over the Bearcats. Cincinnati posts a 19-4 overall record and is 8-2 in the conference. Louisville also is 8-2 in the conference and 10-9 overall. The win extends a seven match winning streak for the Cardinals, who are 7-1 since the return of setter Jing Ding. The loss snaps the Cincinnati's league leading winning streak at nine.
"Cincinnati beat us earlier this season at their place, so the win accomplished more than one thing. We positioned ourselves nicely within the league and we beat a team that has become a great competitive rival," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin.
Ding had 50 assists and six kills for the Cards and Sonja Percan added 14 kills and an ace to the cause.
The Cardinals play Kentucky today at 2 p.m. at the Gardens.
