LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sonja Percan had 22 kills, two aces and 16 digs to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over UNC Charlotte in Conference USA volleyball action yesterday in Cardinal Arena.
U of L won 15-7, 15-7, 14-16, 15-12 and improved to 10-2 in league play and are 13-9 overall. U of L stretched its streak to 10 straight matches. UNCC falls to 11-14 and 6-7 in C-USA.
Louisville's game plan was no mystery to the opposition as Uof L former assistant coach Patty Dennison is the 49er head coach now.
"I sort of felt like I was having an out of the body experience with people coming out of the stands to hug me and being on the other bench was strange," said Dennison.
Despite the open book, the Cardinals dominated the first two games, winning both 15-7. The Cardinals fell behind 10-5 in the third game but battled back to reach game point at 14-12, had two match point opportunities only to lose 16-14. The fourth game stayed close, tying at 11 before a Louisville spurt sealed the match.
"We started to play very sloppy as the match wore on," said Yelin. "I think we got a bit frustrated and didn't take care of the ball. However, it was a good blocking night for us."
Louisville had 21 team blocks to UNCC's 10.
Louisville had four players in double digit hits with Stacey Mercer adding 13, Sherry Hurley with 12 and Kelly McClain with 16.
