NEW ORLEANS - Kelly McClain had 21 kills, 13 digs and two aces to lead the University of Louisville to a sweep of Tulane in Conference USA volleyball action Friday night.
Louisville improves its conference mark to 4-2 and is 6-9 overall. Tulane drops to 2-4 in the league and 8-7 overall.
"With all the C-USA teams improving as they are, we have to stay focused on each match," said Leonid Yelin. "Every game is important and I saw fewer let ups by our team tonight, which shows me progress."
Tulane let the Cardinals build a 10-1 lead in the first game before they made a brief run to pull within four at 12-8. A Louisville timeout stalled the bid and the Cards rolled to a 15-9 win.
"We had three aces and a hitting of almost .400 in the first game, so I was pleased," said Yelin.
Momentum seemed to swing to the Green Wave early in the second game when they scored the first three points easily. Louisville answered with eight straight points and held off a Tulane run that brought them back to three points at 10-7 before winning 15-8.
The final game stayed close with the Cardinals maintaining a slim lead at 10-8 on a Jing Ding ace. The ace sparked the Cards to a 5-1 run and sealed the match.
Lesley Drury contributed 14 kills with Emily Roberson adding 19 digs.
