CHICAGO - U of L senior forward Nate Johnson has been honored as the Conference USA men's basketball Co-Player of the Week. Johnson shared the honor with Cincinnati's Kenyon Martin after averaging 30.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in wins over South Florida and Houston.
Johnson scored 26 points and grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds against South Florida to notch his 12th double-double of his career.
The Camden, N.J., native followed that performance with a career-high 35 points in the regular-season finale at Houston, the most points by a U of L player since DeJuan Wheat had 35 against UAB on Jan. 17, 1996. It marked only the 19th time in school history that a player had scored as many as 35 in a single game. Johnson hit 14-of-17 from the field, including five dunks and all three of his three-point attempts, and added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
