Evansville Tops Cardinals 5-2 In Baseball

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team lost to Evansville 5-2 at Cardinal Stadium Wednesday.
Sophomore Preston Larrison (3-0) picked up his second win over Louisville this season with a six and one third inning effort where he surrendered five hits and two runs with five walks and six strikeouts.
Senior Brad Mattingly (1-2) was the loser despite getting out of a one out, bases-loaded jam in the fifth with a strikeout and a ground ball to short.
The Aces (5-1) plated two runs in the seventh on only one hit. They opened the scoring off of Cardinal starter Denny Williams in the second with a solo homer to right by centerfielder Brian Wegman. Williams pitched four-and-a-third giving up only three hits and two runs, but walked five and hit catcher Matt Serafini twice.
The Cards answered in the third when shortstop Sean Sterner lead off with a single and centerfielder Mike Hook followed with his first home run of the season to take a 2-1 lead.
The Aces manufactured runs scoring on a hit batter with the bases loaded in the fifth, a wild pitch in the seventh, and a double play ball in the ninth. The Cards have lost four straight and are batting .199 as a team in its first nine games.
The Cards (1-8) will turn around and play four games this weekend at Cardinal Stadium in its home tournament, opening Friday with Kent at 1:00.
