LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Carlos Hurt, a 6-2, 180-pound guard who is among the prep players in the nation, has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue his basketball playing career at the University of Louisville.
Hurt averaged 17 points, 4.1 rebounds, 9.3 assists and four steals as a junior last season for Alief (Texas) Elsik High School. He shot 51 percent from the field and 78 percent of his free throws.
Hurt and his family moved to Louisville over the summer and he will play his senior year at Moore High School.
"Carlos is a great talent that is very unselfish," said U of L Basketball Coach Denny Crum. "You have to get excited when a player of his ability puts his team first. He's simply a winner who truly makes others on the court better. He's a great shooter, great ball handler, very athletic and very coachable. He's been tested nationally at the high school level and succeeded. His dedication and desire to win impress me the most."
The left-handed Hurt is among the nation's top guards. He is ranked as the third best player in the nation by Rivals100Hoops, fifth overall by the Hoop Scoop, 12th by The Sporting News, 14th by Bob Gibbon's All-Star Sports Report, 17th by Fox Sports, 23rd by ESPN.com and is listed as the top point guard in the southeast by Ron Briscoe's Regional Basketball Report.
An all-state selection in Texas last season, Hurt had also considered Arizona, Texas, Texas A&M and Houston before signing with the Cardinals.
