Louisville, KY -- Candace Pasechnik of Calgary, Alberta has signed a national letter-of-intent to continue her golf career at the University of Louisville. She will join her sister Cindy, a sophomore on the Cardinal squad.
"Candace is very athletic and will be a great addition to the Louisville Cardinals," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "She is very competitive and has the will to win. She has the most repetitive swing and will add consistency to our team."
Originally making her name as a field hockey player, Pasechnik suffered two concussions in three days last year and was advised to no longer participate. Field hockey's loss was golf's gain.
A four handicap, Pasechnik has recorded a low tournament round of 75. In 2000, she participated in the Canadian Ladies Golf Association which is by invitation only. She finished second at the Calgary Golf and CC Ladies Club Championship. She also fared well in the Alberta Provincial Ladies Tournament, the Alberta Provincial Ladies Team Trials and the Calgary Junior Ladies City Tournment.
"Her handicap keeps going down as she gains experience, " said Meyers. "She has a strong short game which is what you need to be competitive in college golf and score."
In 1999, Pasechnik was a participant in Spring Kananaski's training camp, which is a invitation-only camp held by the Alberta Golf Association. That year she made Junior America's Cup Provincial team.
In 1998, she won her flight at the Calgary Junior Ladies City Tournament Canyon Meadows Golf Club.
"Candace fits into our team as if she was already one of us. I am looking forward to coaching sisters on the Cardinal squad," said Meyers.
