LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Kentucky Tennis Association named University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma the 2000 Coach of the Year.
In his tenth season as Louisville's head coach, Ecarma helped the team rebound from an 8-18 finish in 1999 and guided the Cardinals to their first conference crown, and their second NCAA appearance in three years as well as their highest national ranking of 36. He was also named Conference USA Coach of the Year. In addition to his work at U of L, the junior club team he coaches has won the city championship three out of the past four years.
"This is a tribute to all of my past and present players at U of L and the thousands of players I have been honored to work with in the community," said Ecarma.
This marks the second time Ecarma has received the honor. He was also named KTA Coach of the Year in 1998.
