LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Bing Sun had 12 kills to lead the University of Louisville to a 15-0, 15-10, 15-6 win over Murray State in volleyball last night in Cardinal Arena.
The Cardinals boosted their record to 15-6 and have extended their winning streak to eight straight matches. The Racers drop to 8-12.
"A lot of different people got to see action tonight, that can only help us when we return to conference play this weekend," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head coach.
Playing without their head coach David Schwepker who could not make the trip due to family matters, the Racers were sluggish out of the game losing the first game 15-0. It is the first time in 81 matches that the Cardinals have shut out a team in a game. The last time was Cincinnati in 1998.
The Racers regrouped and stayed with the Cards in the second game although they never led. After hitting a gaudy .700 in the first game, the Cardinals cooled considerable in the second game, at .194. However, it was enough to keep the Racers at bay as they fell 15-10.
Hitting heated up again in the third game when the Cards had 22 kills on 31 attacks to hit .581 and the firepower proved too much for Murray.
Louisville had seven aces and seven blocks with Jing Ding and Lesley Drury each notching a pair. Anastasia Zaitseva has three blocks.
The Racers were led by Trena Fish's four kills.
