MASON, OH -- The University of Louisville men's golf team fired a final round 288 (+4) to leap six places and tie for seventh place at the Xavier Provident Invitational held at the Golf Center at Kings Island. The Cardinals finished the competition knotted with Western Kentucky at +39 for the 54-hole tournament.
Senior Chris Campbell led the charge firing an even-par round of 71 to finish +9 and tie for 25th place overall as the Cardinals recorded a top 10 team finish without placing an individual in the top 20.
Juniors Geoff Nuwash and Grant Sturgeon rebounded from sluggish Day One totals to post one-over-par rounds of 72 as the Cards shot the third-best team round of the final 18 holes. Nuwash finished tied for 30th while Sturgeon settled for a 48th place showing.
South African Greg Garcia was the Cards' top performer through 36 holes but ballooned to a final round 79 and finished tied for 55th place with five other golfers. Teammate Dean Halterman was among that group and joined Garcia at +16 for the event but carded an impressive 73 (+2) on Tuesday.
