Kassie Stanfill enters her second season as an assistant coach with the University of Louisville softball program. The former Cardinals standout works primarily with the pitchers while assisting with defense and the development of slap hitters.
“Kassie was a great player and a tremendous leader in the program,” said Pearsall upon Stanfill’s hiring in July 2016. “She definitely has the ability to take our pitchers in the right direction and she will excel in that area. She’s been an assistant under some very good coaches and she’s going to bring what she has learned back to our program and I know she will help take us to the next level.”
In 2017, Stanfill helped guide the team to a 31-19 record and a 14-8 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference to finish in second place in the league’s final regular season standings. Additionally, five players earned all-ACC honors with Maryssa Becker garnering her fourth-straight all-conference nod.
Stanfill came to Louisville after serving as an associate head coach at Illinois during the 2015-16 season. While with the Illini, she worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers and helped guide the Illini to a 36-23 overall – the fifth-most wins in program history - and an NCAA regional appearance.
Prior to her stint at Illinois, Stanfill spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Ball State (2013-15). During her time there, BSU compiled a 104-61 record and captured three consecutive Mid-American Conference (MAC) West titles, the 2015 MAC Tournament Championship and made an NCAA regional appearance in 2015.
As the pitching coach, Stanfill guided the Ball State staff to a 2.06 ERA during conference action in 2014 including a 3-0 shutout at No. 3 Arizona State on March 12, 2014. In her first season at Ball State, she worked with primarily with the outfielders and helped Jennifer Gilbert become the first All-American in program history after being ranked in the top 20 nationally in nearly every offensive category. Additionally, BSU placed nine players on the All-Mid-American Conference teams.
Stanfill began her college coaching career at Middle Tennessee State University, where she was responsible for developing the hitters and outfielders. She helped the Blue Raider offense register a program-record 41 home runs in 2012, while the team’s batting average climbed from .247 to .272 over her two seasons on staff.
Before arriving at MTSU, Stanfill served as the varsity assistant coach and junior varsity head coach at La Rue County High School in Hodgenville, Ky. in 2009-10.
Stanfill was a four-year starter for the Cardinals from 2006 through 2009 and served as a two-time team captain. She played several positions throughout her career, splitting time between the outfield and pitcher her first three seasons. After injury forced an early end to her pitching career, Stanfill became the Cardinals’ starting first baseman in 2009. The two-time All-Big East Third Team selection was a .293 career hitter and posted a 27-13 record in 68 pitching appearances with a 2.72 ERA and 227 strikeouts. She still ranks in the school’s career top 10 in several categories including: triples, saves, strikeouts (pitching), lowest ERA and opponent batting average and games finished.
As a player, Stanfill helped the Cardinals to a pair of BIG EAST Championships (2006 and 2007)and four straight NCAA regional appearances. Her senior season saw Louisville become an NCAA regional host site for the first time in program history.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn., native earned her Bachelor of Health and Sports Studies December, 2009 after majoring in exercise science and earned a minor in communications.
