Junior: Carlos was a prolific point producer for the Cardinals. Advancing to the NCAAs, he swam the 100-back as an individual. At NCAAs, he swam the backstroke leg of the school-record 200-medley relay that finished 11th in the country with a time of 1:25.99. In the 200-free relay at the NCAAs, he helped the Cards place 17th with a time of 1:18.64. In the NCAA 400-medley relay, Carlos swam the leadoff leg as the Cardinals posted a time of 3:12.37. He was named All-BIG EAST, BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week and helped set six school records. He was the BIG EAST champion in the 100-back with a school record time of 46.92. He was sixth in the BIG EAST A-final in the 50-free (20.30) a lifetime best. He was also sixth in the BIG EAST A-final in the 100-free where he posted a 44.29. He set a school record in the 50-back with a time of 21.88 at BIG EAST as well. A stalwart member of the relays, Carlos help set the school record on the BIG EAST Championship 400-medley relay team with a split of 46.99 as the Cards touched in 3:11.02 for the win. He swam the third leg in the 200-free relay with a split of 19:66 that won the BIG EAST and set a school record. He swam the anchor on the school record 400-free relay team at the BIG EAST that finished as league runnerup.
Sophomore: As a sophomore, Carlos earned a berth on the US Olympic Trials as a dual citizen after qualifying in the 50-free at the Grand Prix. He qualified for the NCAAs and swam the 200-free relay (15th), the 400-free relay (16th) and the 800-free relay (16th). He swam the backstroke leg of the 200-medley relay (14th) and 400-medley relays (13th). At the 2008 BIG EAST Championship, he was a five-time all-conference selection. He won the 100-back and then helped set a BIG EAST record in both the 200-medley and 400-free relays. He also reached the top of the podium by helping to win the 200-medley relay and the 200-free relay.
Freshman: In 2007, he joined the Cardinals and immediately started rewriting the U of L record books. He set a new school mark in the 50-free, the 100-free, the 50-back and the 100-back all at the BIG EAST. He made the finals in the 50-free and was second in the 100-back and sixth in the 100-free. He also helped set the 200-medley relay, the 400-medley relay and the 400-free relay records for the Cardinals. He represented U of L at the US Open.
Prior to U of L: Although Carlos comes to the Cardinals from Coral Springs, Fla., he grew up in the Canary Islands of Spain. He represented Spain at the European Junior Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2005 and is currently in Spain's Top Five for all the sprint events.
