As a junior, Andrei set he 200-back school record at the BIG EAST and helped set the 200-medley relay mark as well.He was a BIG EAST finalist in the 100- and 200-back where he finished seventh and eighth respectively. He was in the B Finals at BIG EAST in the 100-fly to add points for the Cards. He represented the Cardinals with his participation in the US Open. In 2006-07, he set two school records last year at the BIG EAST Championships, with a school record in both the 50-yard back and in the 200-back. He reached the podium with a second place in the 100-back and was 13th in the 100-fly. He helped score points at the Championship in the 400-medley relay that set a school mark as did his 200-medley relay team. His first leg in the 200-medley relay backstroke was the fastest split in the field. He set lifetime bests in the 50-free at the Indiana Invitational and in the 200-fly at Notre Dame. As a freshman, Andrei helped set both the 200-medley relay and the 400-medley relay school records at the 2005 Conference USA Championship. He finished 4th in the 100-back, fifth in the 200-back and 8th in the 100-fly at the Conference Meet. He came to U of L with international experience. He placed fourth in the 50-, 100-, and 200-backstroke events at the Romanian Olympic Trials. He was a semi-finalist at the Junior European Championships and was the Balkans Champion in the 100-backstroke and silver medallist in the 100-fly which were held in Greece. He was the Junior National Champion for 50-back and 100-backstroke and the 100-fly.
