Bio
Senior: Braunecker concluded her stellar college career at the ACC Championships, placing 17th in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.22) and also competing in the 50 freestyle (22.93) and 100 freestyle (50.43). At the Purdue Invitational, she finished seventh in both the 50 freestyle (23.15) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.87) and ninth in the 100 freestyle (50.67). She also registered five top-five finishes during the dual meet season, including a third-place showing in the 50 freestyle (23.76) against Xavier.
Junior: Braunecker qualified to the NCAA Championships as a member of the Cards’ 200 free relay, helping Louisville to its top finish in history with a fourth place showing in a school-record time of 1:26.71. At the ACC Championships, she recorded a top-eight finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.35. She also qualified for finals in the 100 free (49.74) and 100 breast (1:01.60), finishing 19th and 20th respectively. Additionally, she helped the Cards to a silver medal in the 200 free relay with a split of 22.20. At the IU Invitational, Braunecker finished fourth overall in the 50 free and recorded a personal best time of 49.24 in the 100 free to finish ninth. In the dual meet season, she tallied 10 top-three finishes, including a trio of wins in the 50 free against Indiana, Kentucky and Northwestern. For her efforts in the classroom, Braunecker earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team. Braunecker was a member of the Cards’ fifth-place 4x100m free relay at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Stanford, Calif. where she also competed in the 50m free, finishing with a time of 26.02.
Sophomore: As a sophomore, Braunecker continued to be a key player in the Cardinals’ sprint relays. At NCAAs, she helped the Cardinals to a fifth place finish in the 200 free relay with a split of 22.18. She also qualified in three individual events, swimming the 50 free (22.49), 100 breast (1:02.72) and 100 free (49.74). Braunecker scored 29 points for the Cards at ACCs, while also helping Louisville to a second place finish and school record time in the 200 free relay (1:26.92), splitting a 21.66. She won the consolation final of the 50 free (22.33), while also placing 19th in the 100 breast (1:01.54). At the Phillips 66 National Championships, she competed in the 50-meter free, positing a time of 26.15. Braunecker was also instrumental in the Cardinals’ relays throughout the dual meet season, recording a number of top-three finishes against Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Michigan. For her performances both in the pool and in the classroom, Braunecker was named to the All-ACC Academic Team.
Freshman: Braunecker made an immediate impact in the sprint events in her debut season as a Cardinal. She was a member of the record-breaking 200 free relay squad, which finished sixth at the NCAAs in a time of 1:27.52. Avery also had a strong showing at the Ohio State Winter Invitational, where she took home the gold in both the 50 free (22.58) and 100 breast (1:02.12) and placed second in the 100 free (49.93). At the World Champ Trials in Indy, she competed in the 50-meter free, racing to a time of 26.37. She also swam at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Atlanta, where she competed in the 100-meter breast (1:17.43), 100-meter free (59.17), and placed 18th in the 50-meter free (26.37). Throughout the dual meet season, she recorded a win in the 50 free (23.67) against Xavier and also placed second in the same distance against Missouri. In the meet against Kentucky, Avery was part of the Cardinals’ sweep of the top three spots in the 50 free, placing third in a time of 23.41. She also registered two top-10 finishes at the UofL Invitational, finishing fourth in the 50 free (22.92) and tenth in the 100 breast (1:03.43).
Prep: Braunecker joins the Cardinals from Effingham, Ill. where she attended Effingham High School and represented the Academy Bullets at the club level. She is a three-time IHSA state champion and four-time runner-up. Braunecker is an Olympic Trial qualifier in the 50-Free. Academically, she is a 3-time Academic All-American, a member of the National Honor Society and is a member of Effingham H.S. academic Hall of Fame. Her fastest times are 22.81 in the 50 free and 49.83 in the 100 free.
