
Cards Set for Sixth NCAA Championship Appearance

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The University of Louisville men's golf team is set to make its sixth all-time appearance in the NCAA Championships this week, set to begin Friday, May 29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Cardinals are coming off a historic NCAA Regional appearance in Athens, carding a 26-under-par 826 as a team, the lowest regional score in program history.
Cooper Claycomb led the charge, posting a career-best 54-hole score of 12-under-par (68+66+67=201). His score of 201 set the program record for lowest individual score in regional history at Louisville. The junior finished third, the second-best finish by a Louisville golfer all time in a regional.
Sophomore Brady Smith shot a 7-under-par 206 to finish within the top 10 in a tie for eighth. He posted a bogey-free third round with four birdies to help propel the Cards to the runner-up finish. Warren Thomis earned a top 20 spot, finishing 4-under-par 210 on the week. Andrew Tan (T47) and Easton Johnson (T49) posted scores of 2-over-par and 3-over-par, respectively.
Finals play consists of three days of stroke play Friday, May 29 through Sunday, May 31 (54 holes), after which the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on an advancing team will be determined.
That is followed by a final day of 18 holes of stroke play Monday, June 1 to determine the top eight teams that will advance to match play as well as the 72-hole individual champion. The team national champion will be determined by a match-play format that will consist of quarterfinals and semifinals Tuesday, June 2, followed by finals Wednesday, June 3.
