Danilowicz, Schweitzer on Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List
February 10, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville pitchers Wyatt Danilowicz and Jake Schweitzer were each named to the Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List released on Tuesday by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
The two arms paired together to form one of the top end-of-game duos in 2025.
The award given to the top relief pitcher in the country has twice been won by Cardinals – Nick Burdi in 2014 and Lincoln Henzman in 2017.
Danilowicz missed all of the 2024 season due to injury before returning to the mound last spring. The southpaw ended up leading the Cards with 28 appearances, posting a 2.70 ERA in 33.1 innings with 52 strikeouts.
Schweitzer had just five appearances and six innings under his belt at the end of March last year, but the season's final two and a half months saw him take the mound 20 times to finish with a 4-3 record, three saves, and a team-best 2.34 ERA.
The duo is part of a Louisville pitching staff that returns 16 players that made an appearance on the mound in 2025.
The Cardinals open the 2026 season on Feb. 13 with the first of a three-game series against Michigan State at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
