TEAM NOTES
The Cardinals shook off a two-game losing streak with a 44-20 victory over Florida State last Friday night at L&N Stadium.
Louisville fell behind the Seminoles 14-0 through one quarter of play before scoring 35 unanswered points as part of a 44-6 showing over the final three quarters.
The Cardinals rushed for 397 yards in the win, led by Isaac Brown's career-best 235 yards. Four different Cards combined to score six rushing touchdowns.
Louisville rushed for over 200 yards for the 19th time during Jeff Brohm's tenure, and over 300 for the fourth time.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
235 – Isaac Brown rushed for a career high 235 yards against Florida State, the most by an FBS player in a game this season.
44 – Louisville has 44 plays of 20 yards or more through six games, the most in the country.
397 – The Cards rushed for 397 yards in the win over Florida State, the ninth-highest total in program history.
7 – After struggling with penalties to start the season, the Cardinals have committed just seven over the last two games.
12 – Isaac Brown now has 12 career rushing touchdowns of 50 yards or more after scoring from 97 and 68 against FSU.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Louisville is 13-8 in 21 all-time meetings against Syracuse. The series is even at five apiece in Louisville's 10 trips to Syracuse.
Louisville and Syracuse have been in two different conferences together, meeting eight times as members of the Big East Conference and nine times since the Cardinals joined the ACC.
The two teams played every year but one (2013) from 2005-22. However, they have not met since the 2022 season opener, when Syracuse defeated Louisville 31-7.
LOUISVILLE-SYRACUSE CONNECTIONS
Louisville offensive line coach Dale Williams spent the last two seasons in the same position at Syracuse. In his first season, the Orange had the nation's leader in passing yards and a 1,000-yard running back.
Louisville defensive assistant Derrick Jackson worked as the defensive line coach at Syracuse from 2007-09 and was the co-Defensive Coordinator during the 2008 season.
Syracuse defensive back Marcus Washington Jr. was a member of the 2023 Louisville team that reached the ACC Championship, playing primarily on special teams.
Syracuse tight end Noah Meyers is from Louisville and played at Trinity High School before attending Western Kentucky.
ABOUT THE ORANGE
Syracuse dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in ACC play with a 28-25 loss at Virginia last Saturday.
Saturday's contest with Louisville will be the Orange's first home game in more than a month, having last played at home on September 12 against Cal.
The Orange have started three different quarterbacks this season due to injuries, but still rank top 20 nationally in passing yardage.
The Syracuse defense ranks in the upper half of the ACC in total defense and in third in the league allowing just 168.2 passing yards per game.
RECORD DAY ON THE GRIDIRON FOR ISAAC BROWN
Isaac Brown has had plenty of big games during his two and a half collegiate seasons. However, none have been bigger than the performance he put together against Florida State on October 9
Brown racked up a career-best 235 yards on the ground and scored a pair of touchdowns, finding the end zone from 97 and 68 yards. The 235 yards were the seventh-most in a single game in program history and the most by any player in the FBS this season. His 97-yard score in the second quarter was the longest play from scrimmage in UofL history and is tied for the longest run by anyone in the FBS in 2026.
In addition to his 235 on the ground, Brown also caught a pass for seven yards and had a 71-yard kickoff return. His 313 all-purpose yards were the third-most in program history and the most of any player in the FBS this year.
MONSTER DAY ON THE GROUND AGAINST THE NOLES
The Cardinals had been good in the run game through the first five contests, averaging nearly 200 yards per game to that point. The run game found a new gear though in the win over Florida State.
Louisville finished with 397 yards on 43 carries and scored all six of its touchdowns on the ground. The 397 yards were the ninth-most in school history and the most since gaining 411 at Syracuse in 2017. It was also the second-highest total ever allowed in Florida State's storied history.
The six rushing touchdowns were the most by the Cardinals against an FBS opponent since tallying seven in 2016, also against Florida State.
ISAAC BROWN: THE ULTIMATE HOME RUN HITTER
There may be no more explosive player with the ball in his hands in the country than junior running back Isaac Brown. Brown led the nation in yards per carry as a sophomore and has averaged 7.7 yards per carry for his career.
Brown busted loose for touchdowns of 97 and 68 yards in the win over Florida State. Of his now 22 career rushing touchdowns, those were the 11th and 12th that have gone for more than 50 yards. The average length of his career touchdowns is 41.3 yards. Exactly 20 percent (68 of 340) of Brown's career carries have gone for at least 10 yards.
Following his 235-yard performance against FSU, Brown is now up to seventh on Louisville's career rushing list, needing just 109 yards to reach Howard Stevens in sixth.
THE MOST EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE IN AMERICA
Louisville has been the most explosive offense in the country through the first six weeks of the season. The Cardinals have already racked up 44 plays from scrimmage of 20 yards or more, three more than anyone else in the FBS. Louisville leads the country in plays from scrimmage of 20+, 30+, 40+, 50+ and 60+ yards.
The Cardinals have already scored 10 touchdowns of 50 yards or more as well, with at least one in all six games. Those eight touchdowns have been scored by five different players – I. Brown, K. Brown, McCoy, Richardson and Skinner. Louisville is the only FBS school with 10 touchdowns of 50 or more.
BEASLEY TURNING INTO A BALLHAWK IN THE SECONDARY
Kaleb Beasley played two seasons at Tennessee before transferring to Louisville for his junior season. In those two years, the Nashville native played in 26 games but never recorded an interception.
He finally broke through in the interception department with a pair against SMU in week three, earning him the Walter Camp Award National Defensive Player of the Week honors. Beasley then added one at NC State and another late in the win over Florida State.
Beasley has four of Louisville's five interceptions on the season and ranks second nationally through six weeks.
