Cards Conclude First Day of Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational
January 09, 2026 | Track & Field
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams concluded the first of two days of competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational on Friday at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
In her first action since capturing the NCAA outdoor title in the women's long jump, Synclair Savage claimed the top spot in the event with a mark of 6.41m (21-0.5) to open her final collegiate indoor campaign. The mark eclipsed her season-best leap from a year ago and puts her in strong position in the early going of the season to potentially earn a qualification to the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Along with Savage's victory, Eve Divinity made her mark on the Louisville record books in her first meet as a Cardinal, finishing as the long jump runner-up with a mark of 6.31m (20-8.5) that moves her up to second in program history. The San Jose State transfer also leapt into the top 10 in the women's 200m, clocking a time of 24.42 that ranks ninth all-time.
Iliana Triantafyllou continued her climb up the all-time list in the women's pole vault, winning the event with a personal-best clearance of 4.41m (14-5.5) that ranks third in program history. Over the course of the competition, Triantafyllou cleared a personal-best bar on three different occasions before narrowly missing on three attempts at the program record.
In the men's long jump, Miller Jones made his season debut with a solid leap of 7.33m (24-0.75) to earn third place despite taking just three attempts in the competition. Jones will look to continue his solid start to the season when he doubles back for the men's triple jump tomorrow afternoon.
The Cards capped the day with a pair of freshman records from Matt Giuliano (men's weight throw) and Brendan Ruggles (men's 1000m). Giuliano recorded a toss of 18.39m (60-4) in his collegiate indoor debut, surpassing the previous record of 18.05m (59-2.75) that was set in 2012 by Brad Vivace, and Ruggles raced to a time of 2:29.28 to knock nearly a second off Dylan Christian's 2:30.03 from 2022.
The second and final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational will begin for the Cardinals at 12:00 p.m. ET. The full schedule for the day's events can be found here. There will be no admission charge for the meet, but there will be a $10 fee for parking in a surface lot provided by the facility.
