Braham, McPhail Break School Records to Close Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational
January 10, 2026 | Track & Field
Braham recorded a time of 38.16 in the women’s 300m, while McPhail cleared a bar of 5.40m (17-8.5) in the men’s pole vault.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams closed out their first meet of the new year on Saturday, breaking a pair of program records on the second and final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational.
Freshman Breanna Braham began the afternoon with a record-breaking run in the women's 300m, crossing the line in 38.16. The time took down the previous record of 38.19 that was set by Kiyah Yeast a year ago to the day at the 2025 Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational and knocked over half a second off the previous freshman-record time of 38.69 that Braham ran at the Commonwealth College Opener on Dec. 6.
The second record of the day fell in the men's pole vault, as Ty McPhail claimed the top spot on the leaderboard and in the Louisville record books with a final clearance of 5.40m (17-8.5), beating out the previous record of 5.35m (17-6.5) that was set last February by Cade DeWitt.
Newcomer Collin Pate joined McPhail on the podium in his first meet with the Cardinals since joining the team at the beginning of the spring semester, recording a mark of 5.15m (16-10.75) to finish third and move into a tie for sixth in program history.
After placing third in the men's long jump on Friday, Miller Jones doubled back to earn another bronze in the men's triple jump, notching a personal-best mark of 15.76m (51-8.5) that ranks fourth in school history.
The Cards also got a pair of solid performances in the distance events as Brendan Ruggles moved to sixth in program history in the men's 800m with a personal-best time of 1:52.33 to finish fourth, while Temi Ariyo made her first appearance on the indoor oval since the 2024 season count, recording a personal record of 9:46.57 to place fourth in the women's 3000m.
Over the course of the two-day event, the Cardinals set two program records and three freshman records, while seeing 13 personal-best performances and 10 marks that rank among the top 10 in school history.
The Cardinals will return to the track next Friday, Jan. 16 for the Bellarmine Open, which will be hosted by Bellarmine University at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
