No. 8/6 Louisville Heads to Texas Showdown

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams hit the road to Austin, Texas to compete at the Texas Showdown from Friday, January 23 to Saturday, January 24 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. UofL will take on the No. 1/2 University of Texas and the No. 16/14 Ohio State University.
Action is set to start at 11 a.m. ET and 7 p.m. ET on Friday and 11 a.m. ET on Saturday. Live results will be available on the Meet Mobile app and DiveMeets, and the meet will be streamed on SECN+.
The Cards are coming off a sweep of the Missouri Tigers on Friday, January 9. The men's team dominated 205-90, while the women's squad won 198-101. Senior sprinter Julia Dennis led the Cardinal women, earning victories in the 50 free and 100 free, while helping the 200-medley relay and 400 free relay come out on top. Dennis was named ACC Women's Swimmer of the Week for her efforts. For the men, Rian Graham won the 100 fly and helped the 200-medley relay and 400 free relay claim victories.
About the Longhorns
The No. 1/2 Longhorns come into the competition undefeated, sweeping No.16/16 Alabama and No. 6/4 Tennessee. The men topped Alabama 216-82 and Tennessee 120-65, while the women cleared Alabama 211.5-88.5 and Tennessee 135-51. On the men's side Will Modglin leads the way, ranking No. 1 nationally in the 50 back and 100 back, while holding the sixth fastest 200 back in the country. Nate Germonprez leads the nation in both the 50 breast and 100 breast and comes in at No. 3 in the 200 breast. Baylor Nelson ranks No. 1 in both the 200 IM and 400 IM. Jillian Cox leads the women, ranking No. 1 in both the 500 free and 1650 free, while coming in at No. 3 in the 1000 free.

The No. 16 Buckeye men enter the meet at 2-1, beating Virginia Tech 485.5-429 and Michigan 167-133. The team also earned third at the Ohio State Invite but fell to NC State 790-485.5 in their season opener. The No. 14 women's squad secured a win against Virginia Tech 546-364.5 and claimed victory at the Ohio State Invite but lost to NC State 790-546 and Michigan 162-136. Matthew Klinge leads the men, ranking No. 3 in the 50 fly and No. 9 in the 100 fly. Tristan Jankovics holds the third fastest 400 IM in the nation. On the women's side, Mila Nikanorov comes into the competition with the top 1000 free time in the country. Mia Prusiecki ranks No. 1 in platform diving.
Meet Format
Each team will get four entries in each individual event (except two entries in the 1650 free), and two relays. A time trial session will be run at the end of each morning session. Friday and Saturday morning sessions will have separate men's and women's scores, and the point totals will be added together. Friday's evening session will combine men's and women's scores, while having its own point total. The championship scoring will follow the A-heat 16-13-12-11-10-9 and B-heat 7-5-4-3-2-1 format.
