Series History
Pitt has a narrow lead in the all-time series between Louisville with an 11-10 advantage. The Panthers have also been proven difficult to beat when they play on their own field with an 8-5 record at home against the Cards.Â
The last time the two teams faced each other was last year on Nov. 23 where Louisville claimed a dominant 37-9 victory over Pitt at L&N Stadium. The Cards defense held the Panthers scoreless in the first half and only allowed one touchdown in the later half of the game.
In last year's matchup, Louisville put up 505 yards of offense compared to Pitt's 265 yards. Running back Isaac Brown led the Cards with two touchdowns and rushed for a total of 100 yards. Defensively, linebacker Stanquan Clark led the team by bringing in two interceptions in the first half.Â
Notes on Louisville
The Cards are off to a hot non-conference start with a 3-0 record with all three games played at L&N Stadium. Most recently, they defeated Bowling Green 40-17 in their first ever matchup against the Falcons. This victory marked the third year in a row Louisville has started the season off 3-0 which is the first time the Cards have done that in program history. Notably, head coach Jeff Brohm achieved this in his first three seasons leading the helm.Â
The defense has been a bright spot for the Cards in the first three games with the unit ranked fourth in the country in passing yards allowed per game with 114.7. They land in the top three in the ACC in percentage of fourth down conversions allowed (0.333), defensive touchdowns (1), interceptions (3), sacks per game (3.33) and total defense (244.7).Â
Isaac Brown continues to be an offensive machine for the Cards, putting up 248 yards on 19 attempts and three touchdowns while averaging 13.1 yards a carry. Miller Moss had his most productive game in a Cardinal uniform Saturday against Bowling Green going 23-32, totaling 316 yards and allowing no turnovers.Â
Notes on Pitt
The Panthers started the season 2-1 with both of their wins on their home field and their lone loss coming against West Virginia in overtime by a score of 31-24. Last season, Pitt went 7-6 overall and 3-5 in conference action.Â
Pitt has outscored their opponents 130-57 and has yet to let a team score in the first quarter. In his second season with the team, quarterback Eli Holstein has totaled 274 yards per game and nine touchdowns on 55-of-88 passing, which all fall in the top-20 of their respective rankings in Division I.Â
Similarly to Louisville, the Panthers are powered by their defense. Pitt has seven players with 15 or more tackles with sophomore linebacker Rasheem Biles leading the team with 30. They lead the country in tackles per game with four and have tallied 12 sacks for a total of 84 yards.Â
