Louisville Plays Host to Michigan State and Ohio in Season Opening Weekend

Cards will open the 2025 season against Michigan State Friday, take on Ohio University Sunday
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville field hockey team will open the 2025 campaign on Friday when the Cardinals play host to Michigan State at 12 p.m. at Trager Stadium. Louisville will continue its opening weekend on Sunday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Ohio University. Admission is free.

• The Cardinals return 17 letterwinners following a rebuilding year that saw a 6-11 overall record and a 1-7 mark in ACC play. Louisville also welcomes six newcomers to this year's squad.
• Senior Izzy Bianco was selected to the 2025 Preseason All-ACC Field Hockey Team. The midfielder is coming off of a solid junior campaign which culminated in National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-West Region honors.
• Senior forward Rylie Wollerton returns as the Cardinals' leading scorer after tallying a career-high seven goals, two assists and 16 points.
• Wollerton and Bianco, along with junior forward Lauren Masters, are members of the U.S. Under-21 National Team. The trio recently helped the USA to a silver medal in the Junior Pan American Games in August.

• Justine Sowry is entering her 15th season at the helm. During her tenure, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to nine NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the quarterfinals in three of the last six years and reaching the semifinals in 2020.

Last Meeting: Sept. 8, 2019 - Madison Walsh dished out two assists to propel Louisville to a 4-1 win, with the lone Spartan goal coming from Mienke Bloemsaat. This win was the Cardinals first road win of the year and gave them a 4-0 record to start the year.
