Cards Set to Open ACC Tournament Against Georgia Tech

14-seeded Louisville will play 11-seeded Georgia Tech Wednesday Afternoon
LOUISVILLE, Ky.Ā - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to Cary, N.C. for the ACC Tournament to face 11-seeded Georgia Tech as the 14-seed. This is the second year in a row the Cards and Yellow Jackets will face off in their first match of the tournament.Ā
Louisville finished the regular season 12-17 with a 2-11 record in league play. Over the weekend, the Cards defeated all three opponents they faced including two ranked teams: No. 44 Middle Tennessee and No. 60 Notre Dame. This bumped the Cards to No. 59 in the ITA rankings, marking the first time they entered the team poll this season.
Will Mayew leads the charge in singles play, coming in at No. 81 in the latest poll. Over the season, he has accumulated a strong 14-6 solo record and has won six of his last nine matches, all ending in straight sets.Ā
Louisville last faced Georgia Tech on March 2 of this year as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Cards 4-1. Mayew was the lone scorer of the match for Louisville as he defeated Krish Arora 6-2, 6-0 on Court 3.Ā
Last season, the Yellow Jackets and Cards faced each other in the opening round of the ACC tournament where Georgia Tech came out victorious by a score of 4-0.Ā
The winner of Wednesday's contest will play No. 6 seeded Florida State on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
