
Cardinals in Sixth After First Round of Clemson Invitational

The Cardinals shot under par as a team in the first round
CLEMSON, S.C. — The University of Louisville women's golf team is on the top half of the leaderboard as they sit in sixth overall after the first round of the Clemson Invitational on Friday. In a field of 15 teams, the Cardinals were one of six teams to shoot under par in the first round of action. As a team, Louisville shot 3-under-par 285, the lowest team round of the season.
A duo of Cards lead the way on the individual leaderboard after the first round. Thienna Huynh and Carmen Griffiths both tallied a 2-under-par 70 and are tied for 15th after the first round. Griffiths tied the team lead with five birdies while Huynh had four in her round.
One stroke behind the duo is Veronika Exposito, who finished 1-under-par 71 for the day. She tied Griffiths with the team lead of five birdies and all of them came on consecutive holes from No. 15 to No. 1. Exposito is tied for 21st overall after the first 18 holes.
Competing as an individual, Bailey Burkett carded a 1-over-par 73. She had three birdies on the day and is tied for 35th overall. Beatriz Barrios is right behind at 2-over-par 74 in the first round. She birdied three of her first five holes and is tied for 44th overall.
Rounding out the squad is Millie Cottrell after she shot a 4-over-par 76 in the first round. Cottrell had one birdie and is tied for 60th overall.
With the threat of inclement weather for Sunday, the teams will play 27 holes on Saturday for the full second round and the beginning of the third round. The second round will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start on all holes with the first nine holes of round three to immediately follow.
