Cards Slated for Another Three-Match Weekend at Home

Louisville is set to host No. 73 Virginia Tech, No. 5 Virginia and Tennessee State
LOUISVILLE, KY. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team is continuing its stretch of home matches with another three-match weekend at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.Â
The Cards will host No. 73 Virginia Tech on Friday with first serve set for 4 p.m. Then they will play a doubleheader with a noon match against No. 5 Virginia and an afternoon match against Tennessee State set for 5 p.m.
Louisville (7-14, 0-8) dropped two matches over the weekend against top-ranked talent in No. 6 NC State and No. 1 Wake Forest, but made it up in Sunday's second match with a 7-0 win over crosstown rival Bellarmine.Â
Will Mayew scored the lone point against Wake Forest, earning one of the biggest wins of his collegiate career. The junior took down No. 6 DK Suresh Ekambaram in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to claim his first ranked win of the season. He was also up 6-4, 4-2 on NC State's No. 23 Martin Borisiouk before the court was abandoned.Â
He continues to lead the team in singles victories with an 11-3 record on the season. He has also won his last four out of five singles matches with all of his wins coming in straight sets.
The Louisville duo of Hamza El Amine and Natan Rodrigues also had a huge win in the match against the Demon Deacons. The tandem earned a hard-fought 6-3 victory over ITA's No. 3 doubles team of Luca Pow and Luciano Tacchi.
The ACC continues to be a powerhouse with 14 teams ranked in the latest ITA poll with seven teams in the top 20.Â

The Hokies have one conference win this season where they defeated Boston College 5-2. VT is coming off a weekend at home where they fell to No. 9 Stanford 4-0 and No. 10 Cal 7-0.

Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia is ranked at No. 5 in the latest ITA poll with two ranked singles players and three ranked doubles pairings. Virginia split their weekend at home, falling to No. 10 Cal 4-3 and defeating No. 9 Stanford 4-2.

Scouting the Tigers: Tennessee State won both of their matches over the weekend with a 5-2 win over conference foe Eastern Illinois. The Tigers will play their second conference match on Friday against Tennessee Tech before rolling into the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center to face the Cards.
