Ulrich Moves to Fifth in NCAA History in Discus as Cards Close USF Alumni Invitational
March 22, 2025 | Track & Field
The senior opened her outdoor season with a mark of 66.14m (217-0) to shatter her own program record and establish herself as an early favorite for the 2025 NCAA title.
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Louisville track & field teams wrapped up the second and final day of competition at the USF Alumni Invitational on Saturday, punctuating the first weekend of the 2025 outdoor season with a historic performance from Jayden Ulrich in the women's discus throw.
Making her first appearance in the event since representing Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Ulrich posted an otherworldly mark of 66.14m (217-0) on her final attempt of the competition to open her season, moving the senior up to fifth in collegiate history and eighth in American history, while establishing her as an early favorite for the 2025 NCAA title after she finished as the national runner-up a year ago.
The mark shattered her own program record of 64.29m (210-11) that she set last April at the Pacific Coast Invitational and officially gives her each of the top 10 throws in Louisville history, each of which are over the 60-meter barrier.
In addition to Ulrich's record-breaking performance, Jade Whitfield finished as the runner-up in the event in her first outdoor meet in a Louisville uniform, recording a personal-best toss of 58.80m (192-11) that moves the transfer from Oregon State to second in program history.
The duo now rank first and second in the NCAA among marks entering the weekend, while both marks would have ranked in the top 15 nationally at the conclusion of the 2024 outdoor season.
On the track, Kiyah Yeast continued her string of stellar performances, claiming third place in the women's 100m with a wind-assisted time of 11.45 after setting a new school record in the 200m on Friday night.
In the men's 60m, Clarence McLean led Louisville through the line with a wind-aided time of 10.60, while Jaidyn Johnson followed close behind in 10.69 to close his first outdoor meet as a member of the collegiate ranks.
Additionally, the women's 4x100m relay of Olivia Jenkins, Yeast, Ruby Nwosu, and Maya Taylor teamed for a time of 45.09 to move up to fourth in program history while the men's quartet of Johnson, Jaylen Cole, Terence Jackson, and McLean leapt to eighth in the Louisville record books after clocking a time of 40.92.
The Cardinals will return to action next week while splitting between a pair of meets in the Lone Star State, as the team will be represented at both the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas from Mar. 26-29 and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas from Mar. 27-29.
