
Cards Win Two to Start Joan Joyce Classic

Louisville defeated Villanova and Minnesota - both 5-1
BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Louisville softball team went 2-0 in its first two games in the Joan Joyce Classic, hosted by FAU. The Cardinals defeated Villanova and Minnesota, both by a 5-1 margin, to advance to 5-2 on the season.
 
The Cards started off hot against Villanova, tallying all five runs in the first inning. Both Char Lorenz and Taylor Monroe tallied two RBIs while Ally Alexander added one. Alyssa Zabala got the win in the circle, allowing three hits, one run, and one walk. Zabala pitched four innings and had four strikeouts.
 
Louisville faced Minnesota in the second game of the day. Madison Pickens batted in a run in the first inning and Easton Lotus scored on an error, making the score 2-0 after one. Lorenz scored on a wild pitch in the third inning and Chelsea Mack singled for a run batted in by Jordan Williams. Maddi Grant closed out the scoring with a triple that sent Pickens to home base.
 
Brooke Gray earned the win, allowing only four hits and one walk in 4.2 innings pitched.
 
The Cards return to action tomorrow morning to rematch against Minnesota. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET and can be watched on FloSports.
