Cards Take On Cal for the First Time in Program History

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 14-ranked University of Louisville football team looks to extend its win streak as it returns home to face Atlantic Coast Conference opponent California for the first time in history on Saturday night.

Notes on Louisville
UofL (7-1, 4-1 ACC) is coming off its fourth straight road victory with a 28-16 win over Virginia Tech. The Cards had to rally after being down 16-7 at the break but they were able to tally their fifth come-from-behind win on the season by outscoring the Hokies 21-0 in the second half.Â
Wide receiver and return specialist Caullin Lacy tallied 193 all-purpose yards in the win over Virginia Tech, 106 of which were punt return yards. This marks the fifth time the Alabama native has recorded over 100 all-purpose yards in a game. As the primary punt returner for the Cards, he has become the conference leader in punt returns, punt return touchdowns and combined kick returns.Â
Running back Isaac Brown's 126 yards performance against the Hokies marked his fifth 100-yard rushing game of the season and propelled him into a tie for seventh most in program history. The sophomore back is first in the nation in yards per carry with 8.59 and has rushed for five touchdowns on the season. He is also second in the ACC in rushing yards per game (97.8) and rushing yards (782).Â
Notes on California
Cal (5-4, 2-3 ACC) is coming off a loss at home against No. 12 Virginia by a score of 31-21. The Golden Bears were able to pull within three points in the fourth quarter, but were unable to complete the rally. Cal is looking to become bowl eligible with a win on Saturday night, something the Bears were able to do in 2024 during its first season in the ACC.Â
Hezekiah Masses leads the defense for the Golden Bears with 31 tackles, 10 broken up passes and four interceptions. He is third in the ACC in interceptions per game with 0.44 and first in passes defended with 1.56.
On the other side of the ball, quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has completed 194 of 317 passes for a 61 completion percentage. On the season, he has totaled 2195 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His main receiver is Jacob De Jesus who has caught 57 passes for 541 yards and three touchdowns for an average of 9.49 yards per catch.
