October 07, 2025 | Cross Country
The freshman sweeps the conference’s weekly honors after securing his first collegiate win at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 3.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – University of Louisville men's cross country freshman Elsingi Kipruto has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Performer and Freshman of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
In only his second collegiate meet, the rookie won the men's 8K at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Oct. 3, covering the course in 23:14.5 to break the tape and lead the Louisville men to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
With the victory, Kipruto became the first Louisville male to win an individual cross country title since 2021 and the first to do so at an invitational event since 2018.
The pair of honors marks the first time Kipruto has been named the ACC Men's Performer of the Week in his career and the second time he has been recognized as the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week. He was previously recognized as the conference's top rookie on Sept. 16 after a successful debut performance at the Southern Showcase, where he placed fourth overall.
Additionally, Kipruto becomes only the second Louisville male to earn both awards in the same week, following Emmanuel Cheboson, who accomplished the feat on Oct. 2, 2018 –
which also marks the last time a Louisville male was named ACC Men's Performer of the Week.
Kipruto and the rest of the Cards will return to the course in just under two weeks when the squads head up to Madison, Wis. on Friday, Oct. 17 for the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
