Short-handed Cards Fall 4-1 at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A short-handed University of Louisville women's tennis team fell 4-1 to Middle Tennessee Friday evening in Murfreesboro.

The Cardinals were down two players due to illness and dropped the doubles point when Rutuja Chaphalkar and Alessia Truden of the Blue Raiders downed Alice Otis and Elisabeth Iila 6-2 at No. 1. Louisville's Allie Gretkowski and Elena Noguero fell 6-2 at No. 2 to Ilaria Sposettig and Cassidy Mataia.

Up 1-0 going into singles, MTSU automatically took No. 6 by default to take a 2-0 lead. However, Allie Gretkowski scored the first point for the Cardinals with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Lena Peyer. Cardinal sophomore Elena Noguero fell 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 to Ilaria Sposetti at No. 2. At No. 1, UofL's Alice Otis fell 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 to Alessia Truden to end the match. Â

The Cards are back in action tomorrow against UT-Chattanooga on the MTSU Courts beginning at noon. Â
