January 10, 2025 | Track & Field
Soledad Jean and Synclair Savage picked up a pair of event wins as part of eight top-five individual finishes for the Cardinals.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Kiyah Yeast set a new program record in the women's 300m while Soledad Jean and Synclair Savage picked up a pair of event wins on Friday as the University of Louisville track & field teams concluded the first of two days of competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational.
The Cards totaled eight top-five individual finishes to go with five personal-best marks and five marks that rank among the top-ten in program history.
Yeast's 300m time of 38.19 shaved roughly two seconds off her previous personal-best time in the event while bettering the previous school record of 39.10 set by Je'Nyia Burton in 2022 by nearly a second.
In the women's long jump, Savage returned to the runway for the first time since December of 2023, winning the event with a mark of 6.24m (20-5-7.5) that would have ranked her third nationally and tops in the ACC entering the weekend.
Jean made her season debut in the women's high jump, opening her senior campaign with a final clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75) to claim the top spot in the event.
The Cardinals also got a pair of solid performances in the women's pole vault as Natalie Lark continued her stellar start to the indoor season by tying for second with a mark of 4.25m (13-11.25) and Paris Bond finished fourth with a personal-best clearance of 4.10m (13-5.25).
McKenzie Bell moved to second in program history in the women's 600m with a time of 1:33.24 that earned her a third-place finish in the event, while freshman Jalasia Lewis rounded out the top-five finishers in 1:37.80.
Noah Koch also posted a third-place finish in the men's weight throw in his season debut with a mark of 20.22m (66-4.25), and Jade Whitfield claimed fifth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 18.89m (61-11.75).
A pair of Cardinals also punched their tickets to tomorrow's 60m semifinals as Olivia Jenkins won her heat of the women's 60m with a time of 7.51 and Trevor Holbrook set a new personal-best mark of 7.07 in the men's iteration of the event.
The Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational will roll on tomorrow with the day's field events set to start with the women's shot put and women's triple jump at 11:00 a.m. ET, while action on the track will begin at 12:00 p.m. ET when the semifinals of the women's 60m gets underway.
