Louisville is Tied for Third After First Round of Cardinal Cup

The Cardinals have three players in the Top-10 after round 1
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's golf team is off to a great start to their home tournament as they are tied for third after the first round of the Cardinal Cup at the University of Louisville Golf Course on Friday. The round began with a steady rain falling but it cleared after the first hour or so and that started the scoring for the Cardinals. After the first 18 holes, the Cardinals are tied for third overall with a 9-over-par 297 for the opening round.
Thienna Huynh and Carmen Griffiths paced the Cardinals as they were at the top of the leaderboard throughout their first rounds. Huynh tallied three birdies on the front nine and four for the round to finish 1-under-par 71 and in a tie for third. Griffiths also carded a 1-under-par 71 and is tied for third for the opening round and she also had four birdies on the day.
Competing as an individual, Beatriz Barrios found herself towards the top of the leaderboard after the conclusion of the first round. Barrios tallied three birdies for the round to finish even-par 72 and in a tie for seventh overall.
Gabbi Bentancourt also competed as an individual and put together a strong round on the home course. She also had three birdies on Friday to finish 3-over-par 75 and tied for 21st overall.
Veronika Exposito put together a strong back nine once the rain cleared out of the area. She shot even-par over the final nine holes and finished the day 5-over-par 77 for the round. Exposito is tied for 36th overall heading into the second round.
One stroke behind Exposito was fellow freshman Bailey Burkett. She had two birdies on the day to finish 6-over-par 78 and is tied for 50th overall. Rounding out the team scores was sophomore Millie Cottrell with a 7-over-par 79 for the day. She was just 1-over-par on the back nine to close out her round and is tied for 59th overall.
The second round of the tournament is set to start at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday with tee times from hole 1 and hole 10. Fans can follow along with the live stats here or our social media channels for updates throughout the tournament.
