Louisville prepares for new NCAA pilot program with fall schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UofL men's tennis will embark on a new kind of fall season as NCAA Division I men's and women's tennis participates in a two-year pilot program in 2024 and 2025, altering the look and immediate goals of the fall tennis schedule.
The pilot program moves the NCAA Individual Championships from the spring season into the fall semester. The NCAA and ITA office have worked diligently to redesign the pathway to the individual championships, establishing qualifying events and the number of qualifiers from said events.
In addition to regular fall invitationals, the Cardinals anticipate sending individuals to all four qualifying events over the course of September, October and November.
UofL will open up its fall season at home with the first of two home events at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The first is the Louisville Invitational on September 13-15 and the second is the Louisville Hidden Dual October 25-27.
The Cardinals will send individuals to ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Okla., in late September. Out of that tournament, 10 individuals will qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship and four doubles teams will qualify for the Doubles Championship.
Not much changes about the annual ITA Ohio Valley Regionals, which will be hosted by Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., October 10-13. The two singles finalists along with the doubles champion from each region will qualify for their respective NCAA championships.
Louisville will participate in the Notre Dame Invite Nov. 1-3 in South Bend, Ind., before heading back into NCAA prep.
The ITA Conference Masters and ITA Sectional Championships will both be held Nov. 7-10 in San Diego, Calif., and Tallahassee, Fla., respectively. The Conference Masters will produce four qualifiers in singles and three doubles teams for the NCAA Championships. There will be four different sections of the Sectional Championships and six singles players and three doubles teams will qualify out of each section.
The entire fall schedule now leads up to Nov. 18-24 where the NCAA Individual Champions for the 2024-25 season will be crowned in Waco, Texas. Both the singles and doubles championships will run that week, hosted by Baylor University.
