
Louisville Releases 2024 Field Hockey Schedule

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville field hockey coach Justine Sowry has released the Cardinals' 2024 schedule. The 19-game regular season slate features eight home contests along with a preseason scrimmage against Bellarmine.

The upcoming schedule also features nine opponents finished the 2023 season among the top 20 in the final National Field Hockey Coaches Association rankings – with five-teams standing in the top five. Seven of Louisville's 2024 opponents were NCAA tournament teams last season including national champion North Carolina, runner-up Northwestern along with semifinalists Duke and Virginia. Louisville will take the field in late August with a pair of pre-season scrimmages starting with a home date against Bellarmine followed by a road game at Indiana. The Cards will be tested early when they open the season with a pair of road games starting at 2023 NCAA semifinalist and fourth-ranked Maryland and followed by a contest at Patriot League champion and NCAA tournament participant American University.

The first weekend of September will see the Cardinals open a five-game homestand starting with matchups against Princeton and Penn with second-ranked Northwestern and No. 19 Cornell visiting Trager Stadium the following weekend. Louisville will close out the home stretch and open Atlantic Coast Conference play against league newcomer Stanford.

After a trip to Muncie, Ind., to face Ball State, the Cards will resume conference action when No. 14 Boston College pays a visit to Trager Stadium to kick off a challenging stretch of five opponents who finished the 2023 campaign ranked among the top 20 nationally.

Louisville will travel to No. 12 Ohio State to take a break from conference play before facing six ACC teams  in a row starting with a pair of road matches at No. 11 Syracuse and No. 5 Virginia before returning home to face top-ranked, and two-time defending national champion North Carolina on Friday and wrap up the weekend at Wake Forest on Sunday. The Cards will conclude the home slate against 2023 NCAA semifinalist, fourth-ranked Duke and travel to ACC newcomer California before wrapping up the regular season at UC-Davis

The ACC Championship will be held Nov. 5-8 and hosted by Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, N.C.

About Louisville Field Hockey
• The Cardinals return 16 letterwinners from last season including fifth-year senior All-Americans Mia Duchars and Aimee Plumb.

• In 2023, the University of Louisville field hockey team posted a 15-7 overall record and made its fifth consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, reaching the quarterfinals for the third time in the last five years. Louisville also went 3-3 in ACC play and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Cards finished the season at No. 10 in the NFHCA Coaches' poll after spending 10 weeks ranked among the nation's the top 10, reaching as high as No. 4.

• Justine Sowry recently completed her 13th season as head coach of the University of Louisville field hockey team. During that time, Sowry has guided the Cardinals to 180 wins and three conference titles, including the 2021 regular season championship and 2020 ACC fall regular season crown as well as a pair of runner-up finishes in the ACC tournament.

• Under Sowry's tutelage, Louisville has made nine NCAA tournament appearances, reaching the quarterfinals in three of the last five years. After earning national seeds in 2019 and 2020, the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2019 and reached the semifinals for the first time in program history in the 2020 campaign.
