May 11, 2024 | Track & Field
After winning the women’s shot put on Friday, the junior set a new meet record of 61.31m (201-1) to win the women’s discus throw.
ATLANTA, Ga. – Jayden Ulrich earned her second ACC championship of the weekend as the University of Louisville track & field teams concluded three days of competition at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
After claiming the top spot in the women's shot put yesterday, the junior posted a final mark of 61.31m (201-1) to win the women's discus throw while besting the previous meet record in the event of 60.80m (199-6) that was set by Florida State's Caisa-Marie Lindfors last season.
With the victory, Ulrich became only the second Cardinal in program history to win a pair of individual titles during the same ACC outdoor championship meet, matching Emmonnie Henderson's double championship in the women's shot put and discus throw in 2015.
Led by 20 points from Ulrich, the Louisville women placed eighth in the team standings while amassing a total of 42 points. The men's squad finishd 12th after scoring 20 points over the course of the weekend.
Brion Stephens claimed yet another silver medal in the men's high jump, clearing a final bar of 2.17m (7-1.5) to finish as the conference runner-up for the fourth time in the four ACC championship meets the sophomore has competed in on his young career.
In the men's triple jump, Roman Kuleshov made his first appearance at an ACC championship meet count, earning a personal-best mark of 15.73m (51-7.25) to place fourth while moving into the top-five in program history.
Ian Kibiwot also earned a spot on the All-ACC Second Team in the men's 5000m, racing to a time of 13:45.58 to become only the second Cardinal in program history to score in the event at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
Rounding out the point scorers for Louisville were Soledad Jean, who cleared 1.76m (5-9.25) to finish seventh in the women's high jump, and Rachel Darden, who posted a mark of 12.49m (40-11.75) on her way to an eighth-place finish in the women's triple jump.
In the final event of the weekend, the women's 4x400m relay team of McKenzie Bell, Ruby Nwosu, Taylor Boggess, and Sophia Day blazed to a time of 3:40.06 for a new program record. The time bested the previous record of 3:40.99 set last season by the foursome of Bell, Kiyah Yeast, Nwosu, and Katie Martin by nearly a full second.
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the NCAA East Regionals, which are set to take place from May 22-25 in Lexington, Ky. Athletes who hold top-48 marks in the East region throughout the season in their respective events will earn berths to the regional meet with a chance to then qualify for June's NCAA Outdoor Championships.
