Cardinals Dominate Field Events to Close Jim Green Invitational
April 20, 2024 | Track & Field
Soledad Jean posted a top-25 mark nationally in the women’s high jump, while Sophia Day bettered her own freshman record in the women’s triple jump.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams saw several strong showings in the field events as they closed out the second and final day of competition at Kentucky's Jim Green Invitational.
Sophia Day bettered her own freshman record in the women's triple jump set last weekend at the Pacific Coast Invitational, bounding to a mark of 12.42m (40-9) on her way to a fourth-place finish in the competition.
Soledad Jean finished third in the women's high jump, clearing a season-best mark of 1.79m (5-10.5) that moves the junior into the top-25 nationally and into a tie for the top mark in the ACC entering the weekend.
In the women's shot put, Jayden Ulrich returned to the ring with a bang, collecting an event victory with a final mark of 16.98m (55-8.5). The toss stands as the second-best mark in the conference this season, trailing only her own program-record mark set at the Texas Relays in late March.
The Cards also picked up a top-three finish in the men's triple jump, as Grigoris Nikolaou recorded a season-best leap of 15.27m (50-1.25) on his final attempt of the competition to round out the top three individuals.
Jorge Contreras Nazario also posted a pair of season-bests in both the shot put and discus throw, capping off his stellar afternoon with an eighth-place finish in the men's discus with a mark of 52.04m (170-9).
The Cardinals will return to action for their only home meet of the 2024 outdoor campaign next weekend, with the Clark Wood Invitational set to be staged from Apr. 26-27 at Cardinal Park.
