April 11, 2024 | Track & Field
The junior recorded a toss of 64.29m (210-11) to win the event at the Pacific Coast Invitational.
Jayden Ulrich blew past her own school record in the women's discus throw as the University of Louisville track & field teams wrapped up the first day of competition out in California at the Pacific Coast Invitational and Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.
After setting a new program-best mark in the discus of 60.16m two weeks ago at the Texas Relays, Ulrich bettered the heave by over four meters, recording a mark of 64.29m (210-11) to win the event at the Pacific Coast Invitational.
The Cards also claimed a pair of top-five individual finishes in the men's long jump, as Jake Burkey finished as the runner-up while setting a new outdoor-best mark of 7.58m (24-10.5) and Jeremiah Willis finished fourth with a wind-aided jump of 7.47m (24-6.25).
Riley Burger also recorded a second-place finish in the women's triple jump with a personal-best leap of 12.56m (41-2.5) to move her sole possession of fourth place on the Louisville all-time board.
The Cardinals also saw personal-bests in the event from Alba Cuns Iglesias, who placed fourth with a mark of 12.47m (40-11), and Sophia Day, who set a new freshman record in the event with a jump of 12.39m (40-7.75).
Across town at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Rhune Vanroose made her first appearance in the women's 3000m steeplechase, completing the event in a time of 10:48.77.
Lucy Fellows made her collegiate debut in the heptathlon, ending the first day of action with a total of 3,136 points through four events, while setting new personal-bests in the 100m hurdles (14.51) and high jump (1.64m).
Dominic Lowe also made his collegiate debut in the decathlon, completing the first five events with a total of 3,560 points with a personal-best mark of 1.88m (6-2) and a team-leading time of 49.06 in the 400m.
Tomorrow's action will continue at 12:00 p.m. ET at the Beach Invitational with the men's hammer throw, while the Bryan Clay Invitational will roll on with the men's 5000m at 12:25 p.m.
